Whey: Liquid Protein|Is It Worth it?

Body food VGS

80 Grams of protein is what my doctor tells me I need to get, every day. At first, I thought it would be easy. However with this new stomach and the restrictions it comes with. It’s so hard. Some days it’s hard to get 60 grams of protein, but I def do try.

Ever since having this surgery, I have been trying different foods and stepping outside my comfort zone. The thing with stepping outside my comfort zone with healthy items, I come across A LOT of different foods that are so nasty I sometimes question if this is the lifestyle for me. Lol

I tried the Whey Liquid Protein in the flavor Fruit Punch. I have had the worse luck with Protein enhanced foods. I have been attempting shakes, chips, cookies, and bars and the majority of them have been SO disgusting. So I was a little apprehensive about getting them but the 42 grams of Protein I could not pass up. The taste of the Whey Liquid Protein is surprising. It tastes fruity, but it doesn’t have that potent protein after taste that everything else has. It is a little on the thick side so think of it as a slightly watered down smoothie. It tastes better chilled, so I keep mines in the refrigerator.

The directions say to take one tube three times a day. Now they are about $20 a box at Walmart, and only six comes in a box so drinking three a day is outside of my budget. So I drink one a day.

My first time drinking it was not the best experience. I decided I was going to use it as my post workout “meal.” I swallowed the whole thing and hoped in the shower and then went to bed. About 3 am I was woken up by my stomach making much noise. After this surgery, I am used to my stomach randomly making noise. This time was completely different. Have you ever been in such a good sleep, however, you know you need to get up and go to the bathroom, but you try and ignore it because you don’t want to move or get up because you know when you get back in the bed you aren’t going to be able to get back to them. Yep, that was me. My stomach was telling me I needed to go to the bathroom, but my mind was telling me to stay in the bed sleep. I eventually got up and went to the bathroom. The liquid protein went straight through me. It was probably the worse case of diarrhea that I have had since my surgery. I was in the bathroom just about the whole day.

Warning anyone that has had Weight Loss Surgery!!! Do not drink the whole tube in one sitting. If you drink the entire tube in one sitting it will go straight through you. Also, your body can only absorb 32 grams of protein in one sitting.

I started drinking half of it before my workout and the remaining after my workout. My stomach still makes noise, but it doesn’t have me glued to the toilet like before.

How are you guys getting your protein in? What are some tasty ways to get protein in?

Stay Lovely,

Love Chrys
